Kelly Martin

My name is Kelly Martin, and I am a Co-Founder and the Vice President of People for the People. I became inspired to create this organization as a result of my own journey in recovery. When I think back on what got me sober and doing better in life back in 2014, it was my recovery community that helped me get well and stay well. It was my roommate in treatment who had 30 days more sobriety days than me and who forced me to wake up for morning meditation. It was my peers in treatment who accepted me exactly as I was and were in the journey with me. It was the other women at the community violence intervention center who had been brave enough to reach out for help and start to take their power back. It was my friends at church who taught me that I am loved and I was created for a purpose!
It was community and connection that transformed my life, and I want to provide a place like that for others. My dream is to one day have a building that is open 7 days a week, where people can just come to hang out, be accepted for who they are, and not be pressured one way or the other to be any different. We are going to create spaces that are inclusive, empowering, healing, creative, and fun. Whether you are doing well or feeling like you are at rock bottom, our space is for YOU! We want to end stigma and shame because it is toxic. People in recovery from mental health and substance use disorder are beautiful, and we are going to show the whole community this truth! I love you all.
